Nikon have updated their classic 105mm f/2.8 macro lens (why do only Nikon say "Micro"?) with all their new technology - AF-S, VR and the like. It's a fat, heavy lens, with good build quality and excellent optics.
The second-generation VR delivers up to 4 stops of camera-shake compensation, according to Nikon, but only when you're using the lens as a general-purpose telephoto. The exact words in the Nikon manual say "As the reproduction ratio increases from 1/30x [sic], the effects of vibration reduction gradually decrease." Some reviewers have also questioned the accuracy of the AF at macro distances, but then most serious macro photographers would probably prefer manual focus anyway - an the MF ring on this lens is very good indeed.
