Opinions are divided about the use of protective filters. In the old film days a UV filter was valuable in cutting down UV-induced haze in our photos, and the protective function was a handy add-on. But digital sensors don't suffer from UV haze, so now the only justification for using a UV filter is for protection. Some people think that's important. Some people would rather use lens hoods for protection. And some people are extremely wary of putting what might be low-quality glass in front of their high-quality lenses.
But we've had a couple of scares with minor damage to the front elements of our lenses, so we think the safest thing to do is to include UV / protective filters with all our lenses that can accept them. These will be high-quality Hoya filters, not some cheap rubbish you might see for £10 on eBay. And if you don't want to use it, you don't have to - there will be a case in the box with the lens to store the filter when not in use. Perfect!
We'll be making these filters available as soon as we can procure enough to fit all our lenses.
