If you want a high-quality Canon mid-range zoom for your Canon APS-C sensor digital SLR, you have a choice between the Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 and... nothing. Fortunately, this is a very high quality lens indeed - the build quality and sharpness, whilst not quite up to the standard of Canon's "L" lenses, are pretty decent.

The unusual combination of wide aperture, wide angle and 3rd-generation image stabilisation means you can virtually shoot in the dark; if your camera can see it, you can shoot it handheld. For those with APS-C DSLRs it makes an ideal "walkaround" or everyday lens, and it is probably the ultimate "wedding zoom".
